GNUPG

Actually i dont want to explain anymore about why we must using signature and encrypt our mail or data that want to sent via Internet. Its already clear if you read on GNUPG and OpenPGP site. So many reason why we should try this think. Thats way i wrote a little experience that i already done. Its not so difficult for only using. But if you want more deeply inside for encrypting you can search on search engine about that. Ok lets begin for a newbie to do this…

First let try on Ubuntu … cause its my favorite. I will explain later on how to do that on Mac. First open your shell and install your gpg with aptitude. After your installing than do this step :

applenux@applenux-desktop:~/Desktop$ gpg --gen-key
gpg (GnuPG) 1.4.3; Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This program comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions. See the file COPYING for details.

Please select what kind of key you want:
(1) DSA and Elgamal (default)
(2) DSA (sign only)
(5) RSA (sign only)
Your selection?

Dont worried about this question, it just about algorithm type that you want to use. If you doesnt know about that just chooce number 1. After that you will got this message again :

DSA keypair will have 1024 bits.
About to generate a new ELG-E keypair.
minimum keysize is 768 bits
default keysize is 1024 bits
highest suggested keysize is 2048 bits
What keysize do you want? (1024)

Thats ask you about level of encrypting that we want to use. Still doesnt know about that ?? Ok just choose the default 1024. Then you will get :

Requested keysize is 1024 bits
Please specify how long the key should be valid.
0 = key does not expire
= key expires in n days
w = key expires in n weeks
m = key expires in n months
y = key expires in n years
Key is valid for? (0)

You need to choose how long your key will be using. If you dont want to take a busy in the future just put 0 as an answer. Then starting ask you again

Key does not expire at all
Is this correct? (y/N) y

Then you will need to fill some form like this :

You need a user ID to identify your key; the software constructs the user ID
from the Real Name, Comment and Email Address in this form:
"Heinrich Heine (Der Dichter) "

Real name: applenux
Email address: i@applenux.rakyat.web.id
Comment: Applenux just a nickname find my real key on google
You selected this USER-ID:
"applenux (Applenux just a nickname find my real key on google) "

Change (N)ame, (C)omment, (E)mail or (O)kay/(Q)uit?

Ok. After you say Okay then your need to put Passphrase

You need a Passphrase to protect your secret key.
Repeat passphrase:

If done then computer will work to setup your key, like this :

We need to generate a lot of random bytes. It is a good idea to perform
some other action (type on the keyboard, move the mouse, utilize the
disks) during the prime generation; this gives the random number
generator a better chance to gain enough entropy.

Ok finish. You already have the GPG key, but its still as a backend cause its design for backend not frontend. We can see the key by using this command :

applenux@applenux-desktop:~/Desktop$ gpg --list-key
/home/applenux/.gnupg/pubring.gpg
---------------------------------
pub 1024D/6E504B55 2007-03-02
uid applenux (Applenux just a nickname find my real key on google)
sub 1024g/34037B28 2007-03-02

applenux@applenux-desktop:~/Desktop$

Ok now how to using that on MTA such as Thunderbird. Find it on Google... later i will explain. I using enigma plugin for easy to use.
